Awesome new journal

journal next to pop can

small journal

I have an addiction to blank books. Even just ordinary notebooks, I can’t seem to go into an office supply store without leaving empty handed. Most often it is some kind of note book that I buy. This weekend I went to the Printers Row Lit Fest and I found this awesome new leather bound journal at one of the vendors there. I saw the array of books they had and I just could not leave without buying one.  The one I picked out isn’t that big. All hand made, even the paper inside.

full of paper

look how much paper!

Now I just need help figuring out what to do with it. It has a TON of paper, unlined. It’s small enough to carry around all the time. So what do I do with it? Do I write important school web coding notes in it? Do I write my thoughts down? Shopping lists? Help me out.. what do I do with this awesome journal?

Visit from a pretty girl

Smiley girl

This adorable little girl came for a visit last night. It was the highlight of my week. I was worried I’d get trapped at work until incredibly late and miss the incredibly short period of time I’d get to visit with her and her parents. Luckily, I was able to run out the door and make it home just as they were arriving.

Miss Violet was very interested in everything that was at her level. Things like pens, chip bag clips, books and cat toys were so incredibly exciting. She’d pick one up walk into the other room with it, set it on the floor and pick something else up. If anyone got a phone call or a text message on Wednesday night from me, that was actually from Violet. Although with the spotty reception in my apartment I’m sure nothing made it through (I’m sure I’ll see a very wacky charge on my next bill.)

Book or movie? Such a hard decision.

All thoughts of a possible “Violet’s in town tweet up” were pushed aside due to timing, and my wacky work hours. Leaving for work at 6:30am and getting home at 7pm or later just makes socializing extremely difficult. Hopefully they will visit again on a weekend and a much better gathering can be arranged. I’m sure Violet would love to hang with everyone. She’s already practicing for her teenage years on my cell phone and Sam’s cell phone. Nick is smart enough to keep his phone out of reach.

I can’t believe she’s walking already. And that blond wispy hair… such a cutie pie! Wednesday morning I set the crock pot up with a pot roast so when Sam & Nick arrived there’d be food ready for them to eat. The apartment smelled great when we walked in the door. Nick and Sam both were very pleased with the way the roast came out. I’m just glad it was good.

Checking the tweets, emails and texting her BFF

Pffft

So I ordered this book, because I read it would have lovely patterns for all sorts of things that’d be fun to make. The book arrived yesterday and as I paged through, I realized not every pattern has a picture. What kind of knitting instruction book doesn’t give pictures of the final product?! That’s like a cookbook without pictures of food! How am I supposed to know if I’m doing it right without a photo to show me what it is meant to look like? Who made this book!?! What are they thinking?! You don’t write pattern books without pictures of what you’re going to be making. Stupid…
What it does have pictures of though, are cell phone cozy, beer bottle cozy, a scarf that looks like a snake, a change purse, a regular shoulder purse, poncho, hats, a very long scarf…and some other things that are not coming to mind right now. But the things I’d LIKE to try making have no photos. I’m really kinda annoyed. This is why I’m only going to buy all future pattern books from bookstores where I can stand and page through them before buying them.

Train vs Car

Every day this week the trains have been totally fracked up on the way home. It’s enough to make me want to drive to work everyday. Today, there was a “broken rail” in Hinsdale, and then after the rail was fixed a “broken switch” at Cicero. Which caused the 5:38 train to show up at the station around 6:09 then by the time the train hit the very first stop at Lagrange, it hit a car. Yo Master D was sound asleep, snoring. I woke him up to alert him to the even longer delay we were to expect. We called people, tried to call a cab. Found someone to come get us at the Borders across the street. Yes I know a long delay killing time at Borders is hazardous to my bank account. I was able to restrain myself to only 2 books. One book I’ve been wanting for a very long time. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. I’ve read his first book, Practical Demonkeeping. It was very funny. I can’t wait to start on this one. However, I’m still in the midde of 4th of July by James Patterson. Although I’m sure I’ll finish this very quickly.
But I digress.
It is starting to feel like there’s some sort of train/person/car accident every week. What is with people today? They KNOW that’s a commuter train crossing, they know these things run like clockwork. What is with people trying to bypass the gates? What’s the frickin hurry!? Can’t you wait the 3 minutes it takes for the train to pull up, drop people off and continue on it’s way?
We all know that when it comes down to it, you vs train…the train is gunna win. So c’mon people, just stop and wait. If you’re late…you can’t be less late by trying to beat a train. Work will still be there if you pause to let the train go through. The same can’t be said for your car if you get in the way of the train. Being late sucks, but not as much as being dead.

Bleuch

Ugh…

So SBC totally sucks… We got the whatever it was to be online, but they still wont turn us on for another week or so, they claim it’s some kind of FCC thing… pssht… I’ve got a frickin’ FCC license…what are we waiting for?! (I’m sure it has nothing to do with an FCC license…but still, it made me laugh to type that – and that’s important right now). But seriously, we ordered this frickin Yahoo/SBC DSL crap a month ago…what’s the deal?

So this suburban living thing is…interesting… We’ve met all the neighbors, they’re letting us use their wireless internet which is awesome. And we’ve loaned them our lawnmower. Yup, it’s one happy little community. I’ve already had to pull some weeds out of the landscaping in the front yard but I have yet to get the chance to plant anything. I’ve discovered that in the night Mabel hops up on the kitchen counter and eats my shamrocks and then pukes them up on the nice new carpet in the family room… and one of the dogs is angry and poops on the diningroom floor.

The kitchen is nearly set up, we just need to decide who’s kitchen table to use and then put the legs back on and get it in there. We’ve discovered some “mystery boxes” it was fun to ponder what was inside mine. Unfortunatly it wasn’t nearly as exciting when I opened it….it was just a box of bathroom supplies….bah… Now I need to go through the 6 boxes of books to find one to read on the train tomorrow. I may decide to dive into one of the boxes that says “stuff and books” though, cuz I think that’s the one with the new books Tammy gave me.

The cat/dog thing is….well….it’s sort of what I was expecting. I’m just hoping the dogs settle down with the cats soon. I know the cats are tired of hiding in the bathroom all the time. I’m really tired of the incessant barking at all hours and the chasing of the cats up and down the stairs. Mabel had better bite Christian on the ass or I’m going to do it myself…
