Ishtar

BLIZZARD!

I  looked out my kitchen window this morning and saw this:

Out the kitchen window

I can’t even see my weather brick, it’s buried in snow. I guess that means we had a blizzard?  I updated my pictures on Flickr last night and again this morning feel free to go take a look.  I may venture out later on and trudge through the big knee high drifts to see how things look out front. But for now I’m staying in. As I took pictures of the back porch windows, the cats both decided to go check things out. I didn’t notice they wandered out there And as I shut the door I heard Mabel cry so I opened the door and let her back in. I looked around for Ishtar but didn’t see her. So I shut the screen door and the big door and came inside. Mabel was acting funny so I started searching inside for Ishtar, didn’t find her. This isn’t unusual, she likes to hide and burrow. Mabel kept acting odd as if telling me, “you know she’s out on the porch, right?” So I opened the door back there to check on her and she looked up at me through the screen. I open the door and say “What are you doing out there?!” and she quietly scurried inside. Luckily she didn’t wander up the stairs to the 2nd floor. That porch is not insulated and it’s chilly out there!

Home Sweet Home

Ishtar makes herself at home

Miss Ishtar has settled in quite nicely. She seems to have taken ownership of my apartment rather easily. She poses pretty well for photos too. She also seems to enjoy clawing up my couch too. I’m experimenting with a method I heard about that is supposed to prevent the clawing. If it works, I’ll let you know.

Mabel and Ishtar are doing well together, however, they do fight and hiss and growl. Usually it’s Ishtar starting the fights. Some nights I wake up because they’re fighting on the bed next to me. That’s never a fun way to wake up.

Two cats and their fur, along with my long hours at the new job make time at home a bit rougher on my sinuses. Today I’ve spent the day vacuuming and cleaning. It’s kicked up things more than I anticipated so my nose is insane at the moment.  But, I’m sure things will settle down and I’ll get back into the swing of things and get on top of keeping the dander in check. Well, here’s hoping at least…

Mabel & Ishtar relax near each other on the couch

I’ll sign off with picture proof that the two of them can co-exist in harmony. See, they’re relaxing near each other on the same end of the couch. Sometimes they’re quiet and happy. It wasn’t a total mistake to take in Ishtar. She’s a nice cat. It’s all good.

More on Ishtar

I tried tonight to get a video of Ishtar and Mabel interacting. And by interacting I mean hissing and growling at each other. Unfortunately the phone image was too dark and the camera’s battery died. So… here’s a photo of Mabel she’s staring at Ishtar.

Mabel watches Ishtar

There is much growling from both sides of the room. Ishtar is on the couch and once I type enough words I’ll insert the photo of Ishtar so you can see her. Look closely at Mabel’s face. See that white patch near her nose. Yeah, that’s how I know this is a picture of Mabel. In person I can tell she’s Mabel cuz she’s not as “beefy” as Ishtar. It isn’t that Ishtar is fat, she’s just, a beefier build than Mabel. Ishtar is thicker, and even her tail has more meat to it, So yeah, that’s how I can tell them apart. OK perhaps that’s enough words typed so now I can insert the photo of Ishtar for you to see the difference.

Ishtar on the couch making Mabel angry.

OK, see there, this is Ishtar, see her face, there’s no patch of white on the left side of her nose.  The fact that she looks so much like Mabel is what made me think that I had to take her home with me. I guess I’m a sucker, sure… and now my nose is insane and I’ve got the croakiest voice ever. Yeah, two cats might just be one cat too many for me and my allergies to handle. But with a job, I can once again afford to buy Zyrtec. I’d better get on that ASAP.  I’m not sure my nose and throat can handle much more of this drippy nonsense. But Ishtar is incredibly friendly and she purrs and likes being petted. I think once the two of them agree who’s in charge and realize I like them both (although Mabel will always be told she’s the best kitty ever) they’ll settle down and be friends. Hopefully it’ll be all good and I can then type in peace without someone pawing at my arm begging for attention. Yes, Ishtar has been sitting beside me the whole time I’ve been typing this entry begging me to pet her. Poor kitty… she’s been hiding from Mabel for so long she’s now begging for attention.
