Not Funny

This is supposed to be funny?

This was today’s Brevity comic. Usually I find this comic to be amusing but today I thought it was just offensive. Am I supposed to expect that because he is fat he wants the whipped cream? Is this meant to be funny because we could think, “oh he’s fat he shouldn’t have it but he wants it?”

Honestly, a fat guy being asked if he wants whipped cream…is that the joke there? So a skinny guy being asked the same question wouldn’t be funny?

This just really annoys me. Fat people are stereotyped as being gluttonous, lazy, and eating nothing but junk food. If I were asked the question I’d say no, I don’t want whipped cream. Not because it’s unhealthy but because whipped cream makes me sick, and because I don’t particularly like the taste.

Let’s not make jokes about fat people and their eating habits. You, Mr Skinnypants don’t know jack shit about anyone’s eating habits but your own. What people eat is none of your business, so just STFU.

Jerks

As some of you may know, I have no qualms about removing people from my life. I have chosen to surround myself with supportive, loving people who care about me and treat me the way all people deserve to be treated. When I hear about people I care about being treated poorly by others, it makes me mad. I know that others feel they are obligated to keep up long term relationships for whatever personal reasons they may have, but honestly, do you want someone who is toxic in your life?

Whether it is an x-lover, friend, relative, co-worker or boss. If this person makes you feel like crap, treats you badly and is all passive-aggressive with you. Why the hell are you keeping them around? If you saw this person treat your BFF or your child the way they are treating you, wouldn’t you kick that person in the ass and say, “take a hike!”

Call me cold, call me uncaring, but when my friend told me how she was treated by someone she considered close to her, I told her to chuck that jerkface to the curb. That person OBVIOUSLY doesn’t care about her so why have them in your life? And she will be reminded of this with every single future interaction she has with that person. The behavior will never change and there is no sane reason in this world to put up with it.

Keep the haters and self absorbed jerks away. Surround yourself with love and positive energy, it will change your view of the world.

Ishtar is a hero

All night long Ishtar has been pawing at the pantry door. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what she wanted in the pantry.

Well, after about 3 hours of this I finally heard this very quiet meowing, and that is when I realized I had locked Mabel in the pantry. I open the door, the two cats sniffed each other and went about their separate business.

How nice of Ishtar to help out Mabel.

Visit from a pretty girl

Smiley girl

This adorable little girl came for a visit last night. It was the highlight of my week. I was worried I’d get trapped at work until incredibly late and miss the incredibly short period of time I’d get to visit with her and her parents. Luckily, I was able to run out the door and make it home just as they were arriving.

Miss Violet was very interested in everything that was at her level. Things like pens, chip bag clips, books and cat toys were so incredibly exciting. She’d pick one up walk into the other room with it, set it on the floor and pick something else up. If anyone got a phone call or a text message on Wednesday night from me, that was actually from Violet. Although with the spotty reception in my apartment I’m sure nothing made it through (I’m sure I’ll see a very wacky charge on my next bill.)

Book or movie? Such a hard decision.

All thoughts of a possible “Violet’s in town tweet up” were pushed aside due to timing, and my wacky work hours. Leaving for work at 6:30am and getting home at 7pm or later just makes socializing extremely difficult. Hopefully they will visit again on a weekend and a much better gathering can be arranged. I’m sure Violet would love to hang with everyone. She’s already practicing for her teenage years on my cell phone and Sam’s cell phone. Nick is smart enough to keep his phone out of reach.

I can’t believe she’s walking already. And that blond wispy hair… such a cutie pie! Wednesday morning I set the crock pot up with a pot roast so when Sam & Nick arrived there’d be food ready for them to eat. The apartment smelled great when we walked in the door. Nick and Sam both were very pleased with the way the roast came out. I’m just glad it was good.

Home Sweet Home

Ishtar makes herself at home

Miss Ishtar has settled in quite nicely. She seems to have taken ownership of my apartment rather easily. She poses pretty well for photos too. She also seems to enjoy clawing up my couch too. I’m experimenting with a method I heard about that is supposed to prevent the clawing. If it works, I’ll let you know.

Mabel and Ishtar are doing well together, however, they do fight and hiss and growl. Usually it’s Ishtar starting the fights. Some nights I wake up because they’re fighting on the bed next to me. That’s never a fun way to wake up.

Two cats and their fur, along with my long hours at the new job make time at home a bit rougher on my sinuses. Today I’ve spent the day vacuuming and cleaning. It’s kicked up things more than I anticipated so my nose is insane at the moment.  But, I’m sure things will settle down and I’ll get back into the swing of things and get on top of keeping the dander in check. Well, here’s hoping at least…

Mabel & Ishtar relax near each other on the couch

I’ll sign off with picture proof that the two of them can co-exist in harmony. See, they’re relaxing near each other on the same end of the couch. Sometimes they’re quiet and happy. It wasn’t a total mistake to take in Ishtar. She’s a nice cat. It’s all good.

Suffering

I know I can be a real whiner sometimes but I’m also pretty darned good at suffering in silence.  Since I started this new job my knee has been hurting off and on, at first I thought nothing of it. I figured it was a combination of daily driving and moving more. When the pain faded I thought my body was used to the new schedule. However, the past few weeks the pain has returned with a vengeance. This past two weeks have been the worst. I’m still waiting for the insurance from the new job to begin, or I’d be at the doctor.

I find it rather amusing though that if my car were to have some sort of issue I’d be more careful and certainly more likely to take it to a mechanic. But when it comes to my body having problems, I’ve got the attitude of, “walk it off!” Hoping this problem will just go away. It does make me wonder if this attitude is based on my weight. Everyone is so quick to blame health problems on being over weight when in fact it could very well be something else. “If I move more I’ll feel better because this pain is really just because I’m so horribly fat,” seems to be a very popular thought to any ache or pain I experience. However, I’ve managed to maintain this weight (give or take a few pounds each direction) for the past 5+ years. I’ve never experienced knee pain like this, ever in my life. I’m not so sure this is a “OMGURFAT” problem.

Don’t worry though, my doctors have offices down the road from my office and my personal doctor has Saturday hours. So I’ve asked for an appointment via the website. And if I get my insurance card before an appointment is confirmed through the website, I’ll be calling for an appointment. Although I dread the diagnosis (websites give me everything from gout to arthritis to bursitis and torn meniscus) I know the only way to fix this pain is to see a professional.

Stay tuned… eventually I’ll be able to go to the doctor again. In the meantime I need to try and take it easy. This evening trying to sit with my knee elevated and the ice pack on it was so uncomfortable. Nothing seems to help, I’m open to suggestions.
