WNTW Report

it’s about time!

I never got around to reporting on the What Not To Wear event a few weeks ago so here it is…

Arrival

We got there and maybe 6 other groups had shown up, the workers were just arriving and we had like half an hour to kill before they were going to begin.

The WNTW mall tour “experts” were two girls and a guy. The guy was pretty funny, the girls were knowledgeable but I didn’t care much for their outfits. The tall blonde had such pointy toed shoes her feet looked like slices of pizza, the other girl’s pants were so long they coverd up the extremely ugly shoes she wore (and she was wearing high heels too) the toes of her shoes curled up like crazy Elf Shoes they were totally ugly.

But once they were done talking and answering questions you got to go to this computer monitor where you put in your body shape (the only choices were hourglass, pear and slim – no round or apple choice which is what I really am…so yea, I was annoyed) then you picked outfits and recordings of the hosts telling you if you picked good or not would play. You’d get a print out of your “rules” and the outfits that worked. Your time at the computer was limited so the line moved quickly.

Then you could also make a tape nominating yourself to be on the show. Which Sam & I did but I doubt they’ll pick me.

They picked some people from the audience for a quick makeover. They gave away like $200 in Visa gift cards to the person chosen for the make over then the girl with the elf shoes would take you shopping in the mall and teach you your rules.

When the guy made a joke quoting the movie Office Space (“um…yeah, we’re going to need you to come in on Saturday”) Sam, Nick & I were the only ones in the audience to get the joke and laugh…I can’t belive no one else got that!

We realized none of use were dressed poorly enough to get chosen for the instant make-over so off we went for lunch… By the way, NEVER eat at Samurai Sam’s in Woodfield Mall even if you’re with someone named Sam…that was SO DISGUSTING! Vile oozy egg rolls, tasteless rice and anything else you get. It’s food that you eat and are still hungry after eating.

I never took a picture of Sam in the poncho I made her, but she did like it. So next visit she’s going to have to bring it with so I can get a picture (or I’ll have to go visit her an take a picture…whichever happens first I guess).

So that’s about it for the WNTW mall tour. We got lame bags of “swag” not that I’d call a mini bottle of lotion, fliers for comcast and a lame TLC show, a magnet and a compact mirror swag but the attempt to give swag was a fair try, maybe they’ll improve for the next time perhaps a coupon for like 10% some store in the mall or maybe get some samples from OTHER sponsors instead of just the lotion people… c’mon promotions aren’t THAT hard to do! Put me in charge, I’ll get some good swag to pass out.

Anyway, that’s the tour…there were FAAAR fewer people than I was expecting. But that’s a good thing, cuz I don’t think I would have been able to cope if it was as crowded as I was expecting it to be.
