cheap-o!

2007 Challenge

I discovered this today: Knit From Your Stash 2007 these folks are attempting to knit only with the yarn they have stashed, not buy any other yarn until September, with a few minor exceptions.

I suppose if I wish to undertake this challenge I need to go on a yarn buying spree. I have been browsing the various yarn websites a friend has taught me about. Perhaps I’m too much of a beginner in this world of fiber arts, although I think my knitting & crocheting skills are more intermediate. Maybe it’s just my budget holding me back. I look at a $15 skein of yarn and think, “GOOD GOD! I could buy 2 or 3 books with that money!” Yes, I’m far more interested in buying gobs of books than overpriced yarn. SURE it may be alpaca…but…it’s YARN! And then having to buy patterns… DUDE… It’s just DIRECTIONS, why don’t you post them FREE online?? There are a lot of good free patterns online. In my book there should be MORE free patterns online.

Apparently I’m a cheap-assed knitter/crocheter. I only buy yarn for specific projects I choose to begin. And usually I run out mid-stream and have to go get more because the directions invariably NEVER are right regarding how much it is supposed take to complete. I’ve got a scrap afghan in the works so that I can use up all the leftovers. I suppose that could be my “stash” project for the year. Finish the afghan with all these leftovers before buying more yarn.

I’m a wicked-fast crocheter. Give me a simple pattern and I’ll have it done in one night (like the oven mitt-mittens each one took one evening to complete). But knitting is a little slower. And that makes my right arm hurt from the hand to the shoulder. So, it takes me longer to finish what should be a quick-fast project in longer time. Cuz I gotta set it down for a couple days and take some aspirin. So yeah, I don’t post a LOT of projects here cuz I don’t have a lot done. I was doing a lot of afghans for a while there. Most of which I didn’t share here cuz that was before the picture phone and getting pictures of things on the blog was difficult back then. You had to take a regular picture, get it developed, scan it in….yadda yadda. Much too much work. Just make the blanket, and give it away. Easier that way.

Anyway, I may just try the “Use up your leftovers 2007” project. Where I try to finish up that scrap afghan with all the pieces I’ve got laying around and then see what room I free up to actually start an official “stash” like the professionals have. Perhaps come Stitches Midwest I’ll even be willing to part with my money and buy yarn all willy nilly there….In the same way I’m willing to part with my money every time I enter Borders.

Update…
On another note, my printer here at work is an ass weasel.
