Treasure Hunter Update

Relay for Life

The relay last weekend went well. I was hoping to have some photos to post but the boy hasn’t managed to pull them off the camera yet and I don’t have the proper software installed on my computer to do it myself.

Our team won “Best On Site Activity” thanks to the boy. Last year he had the idea to bring a mess of comptuers, a generator and stuff and network them together for LAN gaming. It went over big last year and this year was even better. Apparently all the kids did extra chores for the past several months to save the money so they could play. We charged $1 per 15 minutes. Some people felt this was kind of high, but really if you were at the arcade it’d be no different, it’d all depend on how good you were at the game and how many quarters the game cost. Frankly $4 for an hour of babysitting (which is really what this turned into) is not a bad price. We weren’t strict with the 15 minute rule either and we managed to raise about $150. That is a damned good activity…very successful! I think that just about covered the cost of renting the generator….

Yeah it was a monetary loss on our part but it was all for charity and it helped entertain the kids at the event which isn’t an easy task to begin with. Prepubescent boys are not at all easy to entertian, and some of them can be rather mouthy too… it’s like, “look kid…don’t beat on my keyboard or I’ll hunt down your parents and tell them how much the thing costs and then YOU can come to MY house and work it off… I got dishes to clean, toilets to wash, dogs that need bathing….and yes…a giant back yard that needs mowing and weeding.” But it didn’t come down to that (darn, I’d like a bit of slave labor) so everything is well.

You’d think though that when I got home I’d be able to look at the keyboards and just know which one was mine…nope, I think I hooked up the wrong one, the backspace key is much too small. And it’s too clicky too. I’m gunna have to figure out which one is really mine now. Maybe I should just go get a new one, I bet no amount of Lysol will remove those prepubescent boy germs.

Hopefully next year they’ll have the donation website up and running for us so that I can hit all of you, my faithful readers, up for donations…heh heh heh

MURDERER!

Does He Look Like A Bunny Killer?

Would you believe our little alpaca herder is a rabbit killer? Apparently yesterday our neighbor, Dave, (as opposed to the neighbor “Not Dave”) said he saw Christian attack and kill a rabbit in our back yard. Dave wanted to be sure Christian was OK, that’s why he told us. I did not go out to the corner of the back yard to look for the bunny remains.
He seemed so normal when I came in the door. He didn’t look or act like a killer. Although, I wonder if he was trying to impress me. I’ve been cursing the dirty rabbits since they first started eating my daffodils last spring, then this spring again when they ate my tulips. I wonder if he thought I’d forgive him for being the pee-dog if he killed the nasty flower eating rabbits? Just the other night I was telling him he wasn’t earning his keep. You see, there was a fly in the room and he was watching it, but he wasn’t doing anything to actually CATCH it. I told him that Mabel would catch it if she was in the room. Mabel is a good bug catcher…then she plays with them tormenting them. She’s a little bit sadistic actually. But she gets the job done. I see very few bugs around the house and I saw even fewer at my apartment. I think Bijou was a better bug catcher though.
The boy is going to go look for the bunny carcass today. He’s got the day off so he can clean up after Christian, would that make him an accomplice?
