Home Sweet Home

Ishtar makes herself at home

Miss Ishtar has settled in quite nicely. She seems to have taken ownership of my apartment rather easily. She poses pretty well for photos too. She also seems to enjoy clawing up my couch too. I’m experimenting with a method I heard about that is supposed to prevent the clawing. If it works, I’ll let you know.

Mabel and Ishtar are doing well together, however, they do fight and hiss and growl. Usually it’s Ishtar starting the fights. Some nights I wake up because they’re fighting on the bed next to me. That’s never a fun way to wake up.

Two cats and their fur, along with my long hours at the new job make time at home a bit rougher on my sinuses. Today I’ve spent the day vacuuming and cleaning. It’s kicked up things more than I anticipated so my nose is insane at the moment.  But, I’m sure things will settle down and I’ll get back into the swing of things and get on top of keeping the dander in check. Well, here’s hoping at least…

Mabel & Ishtar relax near each other on the couch

I’ll sign off with picture proof that the two of them can co-exist in harmony. See, they’re relaxing near each other on the same end of the couch. Sometimes they’re quiet and happy. It wasn’t a total mistake to take in Ishtar. She’s a nice cat. It’s all good.

Suffering

I know I can be a real whiner sometimes but I’m also pretty darned good at suffering in silence.  Since I started this new job my knee has been hurting off and on, at first I thought nothing of it. I figured it was a combination of daily driving and moving more. When the pain faded I thought my body was used to the new schedule. However, the past few weeks the pain has returned with a vengeance. This past two weeks have been the worst. I’m still waiting for the insurance from the new job to begin, or I’d be at the doctor.

I find it rather amusing though that if my car were to have some sort of issue I’d be more careful and certainly more likely to take it to a mechanic. But when it comes to my body having problems, I’ve got the attitude of, “walk it off!” Hoping this problem will just go away. It does make me wonder if this attitude is based on my weight. Everyone is so quick to blame health problems on being over weight when in fact it could very well be something else. “If I move more I’ll feel better because this pain is really just because I’m so horribly fat,” seems to be a very popular thought to any ache or pain I experience. However, I’ve managed to maintain this weight (give or take a few pounds each direction) for the past 5+ years. I’ve never experienced knee pain like this, ever in my life. I’m not so sure this is a “OMGURFAT” problem.

Don’t worry though, my doctors have offices down the road from my office and my personal doctor has Saturday hours. So I’ve asked for an appointment via the website. And if I get my insurance card before an appointment is confirmed through the website, I’ll be calling for an appointment. Although I dread the diagnosis (websites give me everything from gout to arthritis to bursitis and torn meniscus) I know the only way to fix this pain is to see a professional.

Stay tuned… eventually I’ll be able to go to the doctor again. In the meantime I need to try and take it easy. This evening trying to sit with my knee elevated and the ice pack on it was so uncomfortable. Nothing seems to help, I’m open to suggestions.
