Horrible Commercial
So last night I caught this commercial that I’ve seen a few times and each time I watch it I can’t help thinking that this ad has a very BAD message. It’s a commercial for some kind of champagne, I forget who’s it is, but there’s a guy and a girl both appear to be dressed in white. The guy opens the bottle and then some bubbles stream out. A comptuer animated gold fish jumps out of his bowl that is on the coffe table, the dog watches in awe… then we turn to the girl. She’s got very curly blonde hair that when the bubbles reach her make her hair straighter and more sultry/wavy…she smiles as if she has dreamed of this hair all her life and the guy smiles at her. Then she reaches for the lamp to turn it off and it’s a hula girl lamp and the lamp has come to life too.
See, what I hate about this commercial is they change the girl…but not the guy…is this commercial saying that women will be prettier if they and their guys drink champagne? Are they promoting “Champagne goggles?” Are they saying that curly hair just isn’t good looking enough? OR are they saying that champagne will make kinky-curly hair sultry-wavy hair? Mostly I want to know why the girl gets changed by this magical beverage and not the guy, cuz in my opinion, that guy needs some help with his hair too. And really, who keeps their fish bowl on the coffee table in the living room? That seems REALLY unsanitary to me.
