If you haven’t heard Sony has been installing spyware on our computers and leaving us open to hackers…
Apparently their XCP software to make their CDs harder to copy and also rendering the music on the CD unable to be installed on an iPod launches a music player that then phones home to Sony telling them what you’re doing. It’s a hidden trojan program that has left a security vulnerability too, hackers can use that same filename to put hidden programs on your computer…it also is near impossible to remove.
Beware when putting a CD into your computer. The EFF has a list of CDs they’ve found that has this stuff on it and they have photos of CDs that help you figure out where to look to find out what CDs have this crap on it and which ones don’t. The other nasty thing with this crap is their end user agreement when you load up the CD…here’s their Crap with that
I think the music industry may have gone too far this time.
